Disaster search and rescue, attacking terrorist hideouts, delivering your grocery…this is the machine of the future. Yes, we’re talking about Drones.
In this documentary, called ‘Drone Rangers’, we “meet the people pioneering new careers as drone pilots, from the South African savannah to the building sites of California.” This is the first film of an interesting web series called ‘Future Works’, that will look at the jobs of tomorrow being done today. The film has been produced by The Economist Films.
What began as an unmanned military aircraft is now changing the civilian work place. In South Africa, it is being used to curb poaching and hence help preserve wildlife. Search and rescue operations during Hurricane Katrina in the US were supported by a team of drone pilots who could reach where manned helicopters could not. Thus, making it an essential element of disaster relief in the future.
